Zionist Brit attempts to rape Hon. Dr. Ron Paul

    From Slate.com March 16, 2009:
"Presidential candidates will do almost anything for publicity. But Ron Paul's appearance in Sacha Baron Cohen's upcoming Bruno movie suggests he draws the line at making sex tapes with gay Austrian TV hosts.

In a five-minute scene, comedian Cohen tries—and fails—to seduce the Texas congressman and former Republican presidential candidate in a Washington hotel room.

[...] The scene with Paul, filmed in early 2008, occurs about halfway through the movie, after Bruno gets the idea that you have to make a sex tape to become famous. (Stop reading here if you want to see the movie unspoiled.)

Cut to a nondescript hotel suite where Bruno sits across from Ron Paul. After a brief exchange of pleasantries, a light blows out on the set. Bruno apologizes for the technical difficulties and suggests that he and Paul wait in the other room while the crew fixes the light.

The other room, it turns out, is a bedroom. The lighting is low, and the film is now grainy—not unlike a sex tape—as it cuts to a hidden spy camera. There's a spread of Champagne and strawberries and caviar on a table.

Bruno tells Paul to make himself comfortable. Paul sits down on the bed. Bruno turns on some music and starts dancing. Paul is visibly uneasy but doesn't say anything at first. He picks up a newspaper and pretends to read it. "You can tell at each weird gay detail, he [chalks] it up to, This guy is European," says one of the attendees.

Finally, Paul asks what's going on. "Don't worry about it, Dr. Paul," says Bruno, who then unbuckles his belt and drops his pants. At that point, Paul snaps up and storms out of the room.

    [...]

    -----
Another report, this on LewRockwell.com March 17:
"I attended the first screening of Bruno here in Los Angeles. . . When Ron Paul came on screen the majority of the audience cheered, clapped, and hollered. . . When Bruno pulled his pants down, Ron Paul jumped up and tried to leave the bedroom, but was blocked by Bruno. Ron Paul yelled, "Get out of here," and pushed him aside. As Ron Paul was leaving the hotel room walking towards the elevators, he said something to the effect of, "That guy's queerer than blazes." Ron Paul was visibly uncomfortable, but he didn't do anything that would reflect poorly on himself.

Bilderbergers bash Barr

The 2008 list of Bilderberg participants lists the following:
    Rapporteurs
GBR "Bredow, Vendeline von" "Business Correspondent, The Economist"
GBR "Wooldridge, Adrian D." "Foreign Correspondent, The Economist"
The Economist has been a pet Bilderberg publication for decades, and has reasserted its place as the preeminent Bilderberg propagandist with several invites in recent years. So it wasn't a big surprise to find the Bilderberg house organ launch a salvo at the pro-freedom party and candidate who dare challenge their anointed savior Obama and old standby John McCain. From The Economist May 29th 2008:
"ON MAY 25th a dysfunctional minor party picked a grumpy ex-Republican as its presidential candidate. This may be just another quirk in the quirky history of the Libertarian Party.. .

The new Libertarian champion, Bob Barr, a former four-term Georgia congressman, is most famous for his poor judgment and sour temper. He led the fight to defang anti-terrorism legislation after the Oklahoma City bombing (among his achievements: preventing the government from designating foreign groups as terrorists and denying their members visas to enter the country). He championed social-conservative causes such as the Defence of Marriage Act, which he drafted, and the impeachment of Bill Clinton. His moralistic fervour faltered only when it came to his own conduct: twice divorced, he was once photographed licking whipped cream off the breasts of a particularly buxom woman. He says he was raising money for leukaemia research. (Well, he would, wouldn't he?)

The Libertarian Party is one of the perennial jokes of American politics. Barry Goldwater, a party hero, once argued that “extremism in the defence of liberty is no vice”. Many Libertarians have interpreted that as meaning that extremism in defence of liberty is a positive virtue: one of the liveliest debates in the party is whether all drugs should be legalised, and all federal taxes abolished, next Monday or next Tuesday. The party's best presidential performance was back in 1980 when Edward Clark won 921,128 votes, or 1.1% of the electorate. Most Libertarian candidates have hovered around just 400,000 votes. The party is also badly divided between what might be called its Ruby Ridge wing and its Reefer Madness wing. The Ruby Ridge wing, which has still not recovered from the terrible day when the FBI shot several survivalists at Ruby Ridge in Idaho, believes that freedom comes from the barrel of a gun. The Reefer Madness wing is more interested in keeping the government's hands off its spliffs.

Mr Barr's candidacy is not likely to heal this division. The Georgian has a solid record on guns—he once accidentally discharged an antique pistol at a gun show—but he is much dodgier on other Libertarian shibboleths. He joined the party in 2006 only after being redistricted out of his congressional nest. He once supported both the Patriot Act and the “war on drugs”, though he is now repentant. He won the party's nomination only after six ballots and five hours of voting.

Yet the Republicans would be unwise to write him off as irrelevant: instead, they would do well to consider the reasons for the enduring success of Ron Paul, a Republican who shares many of the Libertarians' views. . .

Mr McCain is not Mr Bush. He has an honourable record as a fiscal conservative (he opposed the prescription-drug benefit, for example). He is Washington's leading campaigner against pork. He is a principled federalist on issues like gay marriage. . .

Mr Barr and the Libertarian Party, as well as Mr Paul, are both imperfect vehicles for all this pent-up anger. But they are vehicles nonetheless...

Ron Paul slams Trans-Texas Corridor

From Hon. Dr. Ron Paul's Texas Straight Talk, Feb 3, 2008:
"The Constitution guarantees Americans the right to be secure against all unreasonable seizures. My home state of Texas is unfortunately planning on some very unreasonable seizures of land with the monstrous Trans Texas Corridor highway project. The TTC plans call for a highway to cut through about 4,000 Texas miles, and with separate rail lines for passenger and freight, a multi-lane highway with separate truck lanes, utility and cable easements, this highway could be as wide as 1200 feet across. In the end this project would consume something like half a million acres of land in Texas . However, since the exact path of the road has not been determined, it is putting much more acreage in jeopardy, and in limbo.

Taking land is destructive enough. But the perpetual threat of taking an undetermined amount of land is hanging over the heads of millions of Texans and putting their lives at a standstill. Land is a store of wealth and a source of stability. This highway project is tragically threatening that for so many Texans.

The principle of private property is the cornerstone to a free and prosperous society. In situations where a colossal government land grab is a distinct possibility, investment or improvement becomes more risky with an uncertain future and tends not to happen. How do you sell land that may or may not be taken by the government at some point in the not too distant future? Who would buy it? How do you cultivate or build on, or even near, land that may or may not be paved over and turned into a massive, noisy thoroughfare in a few years?

Even more insulting is the distinct possibility that, while the road will collect tolls and fees, making a private foreign firm billions of dollars in revenue, the costs of building it could be heavily borne by taxpayers. So the costs will be socialized and the profits privatized. Public-private partnership indeed!

From Washington I have voiced my staunch disapproval of taking these hard-working taxpayers’ land for a private toll road, by introducing legislation (HR 5191) that simply states, “No Federal funds appropriated or made available before, on, or after the date of enactment of this Act may be used by a unit of Federal, State, or local government to carry out the highway project known as the 'Trans-Texas Corridor'.” I am working hard in Congress to make sure that no Federal funding is used to undermine property rights in this way.

We should be focusing on guarding and securing our borders for the protection of the American people. Instead we are paving the way for more and more people to cross the border as comfortably as possible. And taking the family farm to do it. It is an absolute outrage.

Objectivist Randroids say Ron Paul a reptoid

    Washington Times Dec 27 2007:
    "Face-off

Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul is featured on the covers of two magazines with some overlapping views — but not on Mr. Paul.

Reason magazine, a leading voice of libertariansim, titles its article "Scenes from the Ron Paul Revolution: The Rise of an Eclectic Anti-Statist Movement." The cover photo frames the smiling candidate's face from below.

Meanwhile, the New Individualist, published by the Atlas Society (followers of Ayn Rand), titles its article, "The Abominable Dr. Paul: How Ron Paul Tortures the Cause of Liberty." The doctored cover photo shows Mr. Paul's face morphing into a lizardlike monster.

Libertarian Party opens door to Ron Paul

    Via LewRockwell.com December 9, 2007:
"In a move most unusual for this body, the Libertarian National Committee just adopted a resolution encouraging Ron Paul to seek the Libertarian Party presidential nomination. The LNC is meeting in Charleston, SC this weekend.

The resolution recognized Paul’s standing and history with the Libertarian Party. It also recognized a renewed passion that Paul has ignited across America.

    From the resolution:
In the event that Republican primary voters select a candidate other than Congressman Paul in February of 2008, the Libertarian National Committee invites Congressman Ron Paul to seek the presidential nomination of the Libertarian Party to be decided in Denver, Colorado during the Memorial Day weekend of 2008.
The motion was raised by former Congressman Bob Barr and approved unanimously by the board.

In a related motion, the Libertarian Party voted to authorize the use of their Ballot Base database application in support of the Ron Paul campaign in New Hampshire. This motion passed unanimously, as well. The vote also allows Libertarian Party presidential candidates to utilize Ballot Base in states which have a Libertarian Party primary.

Top Obama activist sees light of Ron Paul

    From Obama-Los Angeles, www.obamala.com :
"My name is Marc Whittemore. I started the original grassroots group ObamaLA and carried it until it was 2,500 people strong. Having done substancially more homework now I am inclined to switch my vote.

Make no mistake about it -- I think Obama would make an AWESOME President -- far better than any other stale "part of the problem" Democrat running. However. In case you have not noticed America is picking up "flush momentum" and going down the tubes FAST. We no longer have time for rehersals or inexperience. We MUST get it right and get it right this time. We don't even have the luxury of voting along party lines if we are to get it right.

And so. Even more surprising is that for the first time in my 32 years of voting I will be voting for a Republican president. And that Republican is Ron Paul. Listen people. And take the time to listen CLOSELY to Ron Paul -- because, like the last, we can ill afford one more drastic idiot mistake in the White House. Lives depend on making the right choice -- indeed our entire nation depends on the right choice this time.

    Sincerely,
    Marc Whittemore
    Los Angeles, CA

Democrat operatives launch slander campaign vs. Dr. Paul

    From Reason magazine:
"The afternoon rolled in on Philadelphia's Independence Mall, Ron Paul supporters kept streaming onto the green, and a Temple University student named Matt Sullivan stalked the crowd handing out flyers. The headline: "Think you know what RON PAUL stands for?" The text: Four paragraphs from a 1992 edition of the Ron Paul Political Report, the issue with an essay about 95 percent of black males being criminals.

Why was a self-identified liberal, a student who's worked for Democratic campaigns, passing out Paul oppo? "I keep talking to liberals," Sullivan said, "who hear Paul in the debates and think he's anti-war. There's an effort to register Republican to vote for him, but he's got truly radical views that are being mainstreamed at events like this."

Here was the best example—better even than the churning, cheering rally of at least 4000 people—of how the Paul movement has grown. No one crashes Dennis Kucinich or Duncan Hunter events handing out "fact sheets." Our electoral Ashton Kutchers show up in dolphin suits at Mitt rallies; they amble into Rudy fundraisers with photos of mutilated fetuses who died for your sins. They only pay attention to the candidates they fear.

Dr. Paul prescribes free trade of raw milk

From Congressman Ron Paul November 6, 2007 concerning HR 4077 to Allow the Interstate Shipment of Unpasteurized Milk:
"I rise to introduce legislation that allows the transportation and sale in interstate commerce of unpasteurized milk and milk products, as long as the milk both originates from and is shipped to states that allow the sale of unpasteurized milk and milk products. This legislation removes an unconstitutional restraint on farmers who wish to sell unpasteurized milk and milk products, and people who wish to consume unpasteurized milk and milk products.

My office has heard from numerous people who would like to purchase unpasteurized milk. Many of these people have done their own research and come to the conclusion that unpasteurized milk is healthier than pasteurized milk. These Americans have the right to consume these products without having the federal government second-guess their judgment about what products best promote health. If there are legitimate concerns about the safety of unpasteurized milk, those concerns should be addressed at the state and local level.

I urge my colleagues to join me in promoting consumers’ rights, the original intent of the Constitution, and federalism by cosponsoring my legislation to allow the interstate sale of unpasteurized milk and milk products.

Romney 'joked' on Ames fraud

    Via IowaIndependet.com Sat. Aug 11:
"Last night, at the pre-Straw Poll "Ronstock" concert at the Bali Satay House in Ames, a Ron Paul volunteer played back a recording of competing Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney joking about cheating in a State Fair popularity contest, stuffing the ballot box in Ames, and dodging questions across the state.

Dudley Brown, executive director of Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, a group that has been shadowing Romney across the state, introduced me to Jeffrey Goines - which also happens to be the name of a character in the movie Twelve Monkeys -- who had been entertaining a group of gun enthusiasts with a recording he says he made at the Mitt Romney pre-Straw Poll rally, also held that evening in Ames. Goines said he attended the event to pass out Paul fliers and was not an official tracker for the Paul campaign.

"Gosh, those Ask Mitt Anythings, how many of those did we have? 46? 47? Unfortunately, people took us for our word," Romney joked, according to a sound clip on the digital recording device. "They asked me anything. There were some truly awful questions. But I, but I tried to dodge most of those. And I, I'll keep on doing that as long as I can."

Dudley, who described himself as "a different kind of gun nut" and carried an iPhone, was appalled by the joke, which he says was inappropriate given the administration's obsession with secrecy.

Romney 'leader' to fix Ames Diebold poll

Via the Vote Ron Paul 2008 blog:
"I could certainly write volumes about this, but I think the facts paint the picture themselves.

The Iowa GOP is facing possible suit over their use of the same Diebold machines that were just de-certified. Story here.

They are claiming of course, that there is nothing to worry about since the voting procedure will be conducted with the assistance and oversight of the Story County Auditor's Office. Story here.

If we look here we see the Story County Auditor is Mary Mosiman.

Mary Mosiman also happens to be on Mitt Romney's "Romney for President Leadership Team".

So there you have it, the Story County Auditor who will take part in overseeing the voting on the questionable machines is part of a team dedicated to "help Governor Romney share his vision for America".

That's a blatant conflict of interest and this is something we cannot ignore.

PS. It's also worth noting that according to this article, Romney's Commonwealth PAC gave State Auditor David A. Vaudt $1,000 in 2004.

Ron Paul truth squads prep for Ames Diebold poll

    Via RonPaulForums.com July 19, 2007:
"There is a perception that the Ron Paul campaign management is willing to more or less trust the crooked vote count which the Iowa GOP is again planning to hold at this straw poll. As some of the campaign officials have been made aware - this is not going to go down well with a very large number of Ron Paul supporters who are aware of the crooked computerized machines which the Iowa GOP is still planning to use, and who also aware that the Iowa GOP was totally complicit in defrauding Pat Buchanan in Dubuque, Iowa in the 1996 Presidential Caucuses. This is proven. (Search "House with Doors" on Google.)

It is now established that Iowa GOP is planning to use the thoroughly discredited Diebold computerized machines to "count" the vote at the straw poll in Iowa. There are to be 60 counting stations. The voter marks his ballot for his Presidential choice, feeds his ballot into a slot that eats the ballots and takes it out of public site. (This is absolutely unacceptable, i.e. having the ballots disappear from public site BEFORE they are counted.) Then -

Then at 6 PM when the voting ends, someone designated will do something that causes the machine to spit out a ticker tape type receipt with the alleged vote for all the candidates at that machine. To see how easy it is to rig these Diebold machines, see this experiment done by Princeton University a short while ago. There is also a FOX news spot on Fox & Friends which has the Princeton people on as guests --- where they re-do the experiement exposing the Diebold computer crookery.

IF you seach "Princeton Diebold" on YouTube - then the first two entries which come up are: "FOX News exposes Princeton / Diebold Vote Reversal Story", which is 3:08; and "Princeton Scientists Hack Diebold" - which is 9:28, and the more comprehensive of the two videos.

Back to the action: THEN, when the ticker tape is printed out by the machine - the Iowa Straw Poll officials will run officiously to a counting room (as if the main danger is some participant stealing the ticker tape out of their hand!). Then, in the "counting room" a representative for each campaign will be allowed to watch somebody add up the numbers on the ticker tapes.

Problem is, the sleight of hand has already been pulled, as we are taking on "blind faith" that the ticker tape is reporting the real vote. Of COURSE, it will not be reporting the real vote. It will be reporting the phony vote that ensure Romney will "win." Otherwise, the Iowa GOP would simply have the 300 or so ballots at each station counted in the open, before representatives of each campaign - by two randomly selected volunteers at each station. This would be the honest and open way to do it, and this is what the Iowa GOP state headquarters - is DETERMINED to prevent.

So, while we welcome some communication from headquarters on this, here is what a fast-growing group of volunteers is already preparing to do:

    a) conduct a parallel election, where Ron Paul supporters - and everybody else - will be asked to show their ticket before they vote in the straw poll, write their candidate on an unofficial ballot, and sign their name and Iowa Address. A group of volunteers will collect these ballots all day, and will count them at the end - this way we will know at least a minimum of votes that Ron Paul should get in the Straw Poll - if the Iowa GOP persists in using the easily-rigged Diebold computers. (Diebold computers were MADE to rig elections. Period.)

    b) Have hundreds of signs present which say something like this: Make Sure Your Vote Counts - (and then in smaller letters) - double check the easily rigged Diebold computers the IOWA GOP is using inside for the vote. (If you are willing to carry around a fold up paper sign -- off and on all day, such signs will be available on the grounds that day.)

    c) Have at least 60 video cameras available interviewing participants who are willing to go on camera and say who they are voting for and why. Hopefully all the Ron Paul voters will be willing to go on video camera. This will make a great YouTube.

    d) other activities, not to be announced in advance.

This entire effort will have a chance at forcing the Iowa GOP to admit Ron Paul's real vote.

The proposed Ron Paul press conference: A group of us are proposing that Congressman Ron Paul hold a press conference on the grounds at Ames - early in the day. At the press conference, we are proposing that Ron Paul address the need for an open and honest count of the vote at all the contests in 2007 and 2008.

GOP scam: Ames straw poll counted on Diebold!

    Via July 16:
"Dear Friend and Supporter of Dr. Ron Paul,

I would like to thank everyone for their interest and support of our Iowa campaign.
Some of our volunteer supporters have expressed concern about ensuring the accuracy of the vote count at the upcoming Ames Straw Poll on August 11th.
This is an issue we are taking seriously, both in Iowa, as well as other states around the country. We are currently communicating with the Republican Party of Iowa, the sponsor of the Straw Poll, to ensure that we are informed as to how the vote will be conducted.

*In their own words,* this is what they say the process will be:

    "Iowa Straw Poll
    August 11, 2007

    *Voting Process*

When a voter enters a credentialing area they will be asked to show a valid Iowa Driver's License, Military ID or student ID from an Iowa College or University. ID's will be scanned in order to prevent someone from voting with that same ID at another voting location. Those attendees with Military ID, student ID, or those who's driver's license does not scan will be required to re-register to vote before receiving their ballot.

After the credentialing, the voter will receive one ballot, and their thumb will be dipped in indelible ink to prevent someone from voting again at another location.

They will then take their ballot and vote for no more than one candidate.

After blackening the oval next to their preferred candidate, they will then feed the ballot into a Diebold Optical Scan Machine.

Volunteers from the Story County Auditor's office and other Auditor offices from around the state will be staffing these machines.

The State and Story County Auditor along with their staff will handle moving the ballots, and vote counters from the voting locations to the tabulation room.

During tabulation each campaign will be allowed two representatives to be present in the tabulation room.

The State Auditor will report the results on the stage inside of Hilton Coliseum at or around 7 p.m. CST.

Following the Straw Poll there will be an audit of the election results.

    *Credentialing and Voting Rules*

Balloting begins when doors open at 10:00 am and continues until 6:00 pm when the voting areas are shut down. Votes will be tallied by the State Auditor's Office and results will be announced by emcee.

The poll will be conducted on a one vote per person basis.

Participants of the straw poll shall be Iowa residents who will be 18 years of age on or before November 4, 2008. Only participants who present photo identification of the following type will be allowed to vote: valid Iowa Driver's License, Military ID or student ID from an Iowa College/University. ID's will be checked at voting areas. Those attendees with Military ID or student ID will be required to re-register to vote before receiving their ballot.

All result information obtained from the straw poll will be made available to the media and to the campaign committees.

Voting machines will be used. The voting machines will be provided by the Story County Auditor. Voting machines will be positioned on the concourse level of Hilton Coliseum, Scheman Building, and CY Stephens auditorium.

Each campaign is responsible for providing 2 representatives to be present for tallying votes.

Campaigns must provide names of representatives by July 31, 2007.

The State Auditor's Office will oversee the voting/tallying process.

Candidates will be listed on the voting ballot in randomized order according to last name.

The Republican State Central Committee will determine the minimum requirements for invitation to the Straw Poll.

A voting demonstration will take place on Friday, August 10th at 3:00 p.m. The site will be determined the week of the event."

Working to ensure that the vote count is accurate, will be an ongoing process for both the Iowa Campaign and the National Campaign, from now through the election itself.

Thank you for your work for Dr. Paul.

    Joe Seehusen
    Iowa State Coordinator

Pelosi set to quash Dr. Paul's Health Freedom bill

Hot off the presses information from Natural Solutions Foundation:
"HR.2900 is the House companion bill to S.1082, the FDA "revitalization" bill that breezed through the Senate last month. That Senate bill was amended to protect Dietary Supplements and we want to make sure the House bill will also be amended to protect supplements and natural remedies. To do that, HR.2900 must be "brought up under a regular order" so it can be fully debated and amended.

Currently the bill is scheduled for 40 minutes of debate and NO amendments, which means Ron Paul's important Health Freedom Protection Act, HR.2117 or other amendments, such as that proposed by attorney Jonathan Emord, would not be allowed to become an amendments to this bill.

We need your help in getting a message through to the House leadership. Please reference HR.2900 and ask that HR.2900 be "brought up under a regular order" to be considered by the House WITH amendments. The bill is expected to be moved on Tuesday, so this is an URGENT matter.

Speaker Pelosi's office in DC is: (202) 225-4965
    Email her at: AmericanVoices@mail.house.gov

Email something akin to the following message:
"I urge the House leadership to allow HR.2900 -- the "Food and Drug Administration Amendments Act of 2007". -- to be brought up under a regular order so it can be fully debated and amended. I support Ron Paul's Health Freedom Protection Act, HR.2117.

Iowa: Ron Paul outdraws six other candidates combined

    From Free-Market News network SOURCE-DATE-HERE:
"According to eyewitnesses, the Ron Paul tax rally taking place next door to the Iowa Tax Forum - and competing with it - actually outdrew the official forum and its many GOP candidates.

GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul (R-Tex) had not been invited to the forum, according to sponsors because he was not a serious candidate with a serious, successful campaign, or an organization in Iowa.

Two reports - from the Des Moines Register and Iowapolitics.com - put Ron Paul’s rally numbers around 600-800. But eyewitness attending the rally put the numbers at 1000-1200, or 200-600 more than the formal GOP forum.

Ron Paul's campaign, in a press release posted at www.RonPaul.com on July 1, put the number at 1,000.

These latter numbers are seemingly confirmed by eyewitnesses and attendees of the rally. According to these reports, the Ron Paul rally had 1,000 seats to fill, and all of them were filled – plus other onlookers were standing on the sidelines, up to 200 of them. The numbers thus begin to tell the tale of a rally that outdrew the "official rally" by either 200 attendees at the low end, or actually doubled the turnout of the official forum at the high end. Additionally, the Ron Paul affair was reportedly "raucous" and high energy compared to the lower-key official forum.

Ron Paul tops non-CNN candidates in CNN New Hampshire poll

CNN rigged the last Presidential primary debate in favor of John McCain (R-Manchuria), Mitt Romney (R-Mormon) and Rudy Giuliani (R-911). Those three topped the declared candidates in a CNN poll released Tuesday.

Top among the grassroots candidates disfavored and discriminated upon by the Communist News Network was Congressman Dr. Ron Paul of Texas. Paul received 3 percent in the biased poll.

Ron Paul tops non-Mormons in Utah GOP straw poll

Goings-on in Utah, as reported by the Salt Lake City Tribune 06/10/2007:
"Republican delegates elected a new state party chairman and reaffirmed their support for presidential candidate Mitt Romney during their annual convention Saturday...

The results of a presidential straw poll before almost all of the 1,600 Republican delegates left the South Towne Expo Center:

The stragglers learned that former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, a Mormon who also led the Salt Lake Olympic organizing committee, took four out of every five votes, leaving about 250 ballots to be shared among 10 other candidates.

Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, who puts a libertarian slant on Republican politics, took second with 70 votes and just more than 5 percent of the total...

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani received 57 votes and Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, collected 54 of the ballots.

Hon. Dr. Paul grills Condi Rice on Iran lies

    Excerpted from Agence France-Presse 07/02/07:
"Condoleezza Rice, the US secretary of state, has been confronted in congress over the US administration's failure to provide firm evidence for Iran's alleged nuclear weapons development.

Ron Paul, a Republican congressman, said: "Unproven charges against Iran's nuclear intentions are eerily reminiscent of the false charges made against Iraq."

Paul said "unproven accusations of Iranian support for the Iraqi insurgency" were also serving as a pretext for "escalating our sharp rhetoric towards Iran".

"Pressed for proof of dramatic claims of Iranian involvement in Iraq, the administration keeps promising that they are compiling it."

Paul was speaking as Rice presented the US state department's annual budget request to the congressional foreign affairs committee on Capitol Hill in Washington on Wednesday.

He said: "This sounds like Iraq, where accusations came first and proof was supposed to come later – only that proof never came because the accusations turned out to be false."

Paul referred to discredited allegations that Saddam Hussein's government was building weapons of mass destruction.

US officials have promised to make public what Sean McCormack, a state department spokesman, described as a "mountain of evidence" to back up allegations about Iranian involvement in attacks on US and allied forces in Iraq.

No such evidence has yet been put forward by the administration.

Rejecting Paul's suggestions, Rice said: "We are not planning or intending an attack on Iran.

NYTimes profile of Hon. Dr. Ron Paul

From Bruce Bartlett in the New York Times January 23, 2007 via Fair Use Archive:
"The other day, I went by to visit Congressman Ron Paul, Republican of Texas. My first "real" job in Washington was working for him when he was initially elected to Congress in 1976, and I wanted to see how he was doing. Little did I realize when I made the appointment that I would be talking to a candidate for president.

I remember clearly when I first heard of Ron. It was in an article in The Washington Post on April 5, 1976, which said that he had just won a special election. ...

I was looking for a job at the time, so I sent a resume and a couple of articles I had published to Ron's office and about a month later got an interview with him. I remember that his office had a complete set of books distributed by the Foundation for Economic Education, in Irvington, N. Y., the most prominent free-market think tank in the United States at that time.

This was a good sign because I had published two articles in the foundation’s journal, The Freeman. . .

Ron saw the roots of the inflation problem in fiat money – currency not backed by gold or other tangible assets. At the time, this was a controversial position. But there was no denying that inflation had accelerated in 1971, when the United States cut the dollar's last link to gold. This meant that the Federal Reserve Board was no longer constrained by how much it could increase the money supply, which increased rapidly along with inflation.

Although few economists supported a return to the gold standard, as Ron did (and still does), his critique of the Fed for creating the inflation problem dovetailed with that of "monetarists" like Milton Friedman, the late University of Chicago economist. At that time, most economists thought something other than the money supply was the main cause of inflation – budget deficits, higher prices for oil engineered by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, bad harvests, whatever.

The Fed chairman at that time was Arthur Burns. . . Burns's performances were masterful, but unilluminating. He always found some way to blame inflation on something other than Fed policy.

Since Burns was a Republican who had been appointed by Richard Nixon, criticizing him wasn't really in the Republican playbook. But Ron was adamant that inflation had no other cause than too much money and that Burns could stop it if he wanted to. Most economists now agree with this view. . .

In other ways as well, Ron was not your average Republican or a typical member of Congress. Most Republicans reflexively voted whatever way the White House told them to – Gerald Ford was still president, and party unity was the order of the day. And most congressmen hate being on the wrong side of a lopsided vote. But Ron voted his conscience and was often the only "nay" vote out of 435.

Since Ron is a medical doctor, he became known as "Dr. No," which delighted him. He hadn't run for Congress as a stepping stone to becoming a lobbyist, but to define the political spectrum by showing how a consistent libertarian would vote. This meant being for the free market and against gun control – conventional right-wing positions – but also being in favor of drug legalization and nonintervention in foreign affairs – more commonly left-wing positions.

This is still Ron's philosophy. It is why he has consistently opposed the war in Iraq, making him something of a darling among those on the left who see no connection between Ron's free market views and his antiwar position. But to him and other libertarians the issues are one and the same. They’re against unjustified government intervention at home or abroad.

. . . In 1988, he was the Libertarian Party’s presidential candidate, garnering 432,000 votes nationally.

In 1996, Ron was re-elected to Congress in a different district. (Tom Delay had his old district.) The Republican leadership wasn't too happy to have him back, however, because they had persuaded the Democratic congressman in Ron's new district to switch parties with a promise that he would run unopposed. But Ron had made no such promise.

Ron upset the Republican leadership's plans to get other Democrats to switch party and embarrassed them by winning the Republican nomination and the general election. When he came back to the House, his fellow Republicans denied him the seniority to which he was entitled because of his previous service, and generally treated him as an outcast. . .

I asked Ron why he kept running for office . . . he said it was because he enjoyed the job. He gets to say what he thinks, meets interesting people, and shows that honesty and adherence to principle are not the political albatrosses that most politicians think they are. It's worth noting that in 2006, when Republicans were losing control of Congress, Ron got 60 percent of the vote in his district.

[...]During my visit, Ron had to leave for a vote, and that prevented my asking him about his future – according to press reports he has formed an exploratory committee to seek the Republican presidential nomination. Obviously, this is a long shot, but at least he has the advantage of being the only announced candidate in either party who has already received a political party's presidential nomination.

In any other year, one would automatically dismiss Ron’s chances as quixotic at best. But 2008 is shaping up as an unusually fluid year politically, with no clear front-runner in either party, and new candidates emerging almost weekly. And the Internet has leveled the playing field in many ways. It may be a year when anything can happen.

Prez explorer Paul: Investigate 9/11 'cover-up'

Dr. Ron Paul, Texas Congressman exploring a run for President, appeared on The Alex Jones Show Wednesday [MP3 link] and had the following to say about 9/11:
"CALLER: I want a complete, impartial, and totally independent investigation of the events of September 11, 2001 . I'm tired of this bogus garbage about terrorism. Ask Michael Meacher about how he feels about this bogus war on terrorism. Can you comment on that please?

HON. DR. RON PAUL: Well, that would be nice to have. Unfortunately, we don't have that in place. It will be a little bit better now with the Democrats now in charge of oversight. But you know, for top level policy there's not a whole lot of difference between the two policies so a real investigation isn't going to happen. But I think we have to keep pushing for it. And like you and others, we see the investigations that have been done so far as more or less cover-up and no real explanation of what went on.

JACK BLOOD, GUEST HOST: I think it's fair to say that of all the candidates out there, the one most interested in reopening the investigation and clearing the questions is Dr. Paul; and you should be commended for that.

Dr. Paul's Presidential exploratory committee need not report contributions under $200 to the FEC. Why not show your support for a new 9/11 investigation by sending him a check for $199.11?

Ron Paul frets on Persian 'Tonkin'

UPDATE: Congressman Paul delivered similar remarks on the floor of the House:

Congressman Ron Paul has announced that he has joined Total411.info and others in worrying that the powers that be may set up a "Gulf of Tonkin" type false-flag attack to kick off a conflict with Iran.

From Dr. Paul's weekly Texas Straight Talk January 15, 2007 :
"While the president’s announcement that an additional 20,000 troops would be sent to Iraq dominated the headlines last week, the real story was the president’s sharp rhetoric towards Iran and Syria. And recent moves by the administration only serve to confirm the likelihood of a wider conflict in the Middle East.

The president stated last week that, "Succeeding in Iraq also requires defending its territorial integrity- and stabilizing the region in the face of the extremist challenge. This begins with addressing Iran and Syria." He also announced the deployment of an additional aircraft carrier battle group to the Persian Gulf, and the deployment of Patriot air missile defense systems to countries in the Middle East. Meanwhile, US troops stormed the Iranian consulate in Iraq and detained several Iranian diplomats. Taken together, the message was clear: the administration intends to move the US closer to a dangerous and ill-advised conflict with Iran.

As I said last week on the House floor, speculation in Washington focuses on when, not if, either Israel or the U.S. will bomb Iran-- possibly with nuclear weapons. The accusation sounds very familiar: namely, that Iran possesses weapons of mass destruction. Iran has never been found in violation of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, and our own Central Intelligence Agency says Iran is more than ten years away from producing any kind of nuclear weapon. Yet we are told we must act immediately while we still can!

This all sounds very familiar, but many of my colleagues don't seem to have learned much from the invasion of Iraq. House Democrats strongly criticized the Iraq troop surge after the president's announcement, but then praised the president’s confrontational words condemning Iran. Many of those opposing a troop surge are not calling for a withdrawal of our troops from the Middle East, but rather for "redeployment." Redeployment to where? Iran?

We need to return to reality when it comes to our Middle East policy. We need to reject the increasingly shrill rhetoric coming from the same voices who urged the president to invade Iraq.

The truth is that Iran, like Iraq, is a third-world nation without a significant military. Nothing in history hints that she is likely to invade a neighboring country, let alone America or Israel. I am concerned, however, that a contrived Gulf of Tonkin- type incident may occur to gain popular support for an attack on Iran.

Ron Paul for President 2008

Total411.info urges its readers to donate money to this campaign as soon as possible. From Associated Press Jan 11:
"Rep. Ron Paul, the iconoclastic, nine-term lawmaker from southeast Texas, took the first step Thursday toward a second, quixotic presidential bid _ this time as a Republican.

Paul filed papers in Texas to create a presidential exploratory committee that will allow him to raise money. In 1988, Paul was the Libertarian nominee for president and received more than 400,000 votes.

Kent Snyder, the chairman of Paul's exploratory committee and a former staffer on Paul's Libertarian campaign, said the congressman knows he's a long shot.

"There's no question that it's an uphill battle, and that Dr. Paul is an underdog," Snyder said. "But we think it's well worth doing and we'll let the voters decide."

Paul limits his view of the role of the federal government to those duties laid out in the Constitution. As a result, he sometimes casts votes at odds with his constituents and other Republicans.

He was one of a handful of Republicans to vote in 2002 against giving President Bush the authority to use military force in Iraq, contending that only Congress had the power to declare war. At times, he has voted against funds for the military.

Paul bills himself as "The Taxpayers' Best Friend," and is routinely ranked either first or second in the House by the National Taxpayers Union, a national group advocating low taxes and limited government.
